Played like dog crap and still beat the "2nd" best team in the region. On to the next one.

    Re: Arby's Classic

To be fair, Hurley was missing two kids due to death in the family. I'm not sure who one of them was, but I k ow the post player would have made a difference. Andy wouldn't have been nearly as effective and efficient and the Waynick kid accounts for a double-double every game. Neither team played their best basketball.

I'm not trying to take anything away from Gate City as they have a very good team this year. Even a Hurley team at full strength, second best team in the region or not, is a team that Gate City should beat.

Also, I'm not sure Hurley is that much better than Twin Springs. I know they weren't at full strength, but they aren't very athletic at all IMO. They play extremely well together, but if they get in a track meet with the Titans it could be the end of them.

Just to be fair to Hurley, Mentor scored 102 again the next game against the group from Atlanta that beat GC.

I dont think it mattered if Gate City were playing the Knicks, They would still have an excuse for losing. Give other teams some credit. Hurley would have a great chance to took that game to the wire if the other two kids were playing. But like duckmeat, Im not taking anything away from GC at all, best team in the region

    Re: Arby's Classic

Bowen went down vs hurley early he played in the Craigmont game yesterday though. Excuse? None here, we just didnt perform well. We went away from what we do best. It was close and back and forth but we tried forcing dumb shots and passes. But 2 legitiment losses on our schedule. Greater Atlanta 2 time defending AA state champs of Georgia and Craigmont the defending AAA state champs out of Memphis Tn. To be the best you gotta play the best.

And on another note, Gate City's Andy Arnold stole the show in the Dunk Contest last become only the 2nd local ever to win and the 1st from swva. And Austen made it into the semi finals (top 5)
